Some tabs can even destroy the dishes: winners and losers at Stiftung Warentest

Dishwasher tabs are part of the basic equipment of a dishwasher: The products, some of which are available from as little as 3 euros, are not only very easy to use – at the same time, the majority of the tabs delivered the test Stiftung Warentest also a “squeaky clean” performance.

In terms of cleanliness, Stiftung Warentest examines a total of five areas: cleaning, rinsing, preventing limescale and drying. The environmental friendliness of the products and the user-friendliness of the packaging also play a part in the overall rating.

In the area of ​​material protection, on the other hand, there were some clear differences. While most tabs do not damage plates and co., other tabs do not treat the dishes very gently. In some products, there is even discoloration of the material – which is of course particularly annoying with more expensive dishes.

Dishwasher tabs: Lidl, Kaufland, Aldi and Co. beat expensive brands

Among the test winners are surprisingly mainly discounter and drugstore products. You can score in almost every category. It is only when it comes to environmental properties that even the best perform only “satisfactorily”.

The overall rating is still impressive. Although no product scored “very good” (grade 1), the inexpensive test winners all secured the rating “good” (grade 2).

“Poor” verdict: You should stay away from these tabs

Well-known brand tabs for the dishwasher perform less convincingly. Four of the tested products concluded the test with the verdict of “poor”. They are not convincing when it comes to cleaning, nor when it comes to protecting the material. They sometimes discolour the cutlery, shiny silver becomes dull golden – the discolouration can no longer be removed. This is particularly annoying with expensive crockery.
