It’s official, the saga Sonic will become a trilogy, with the upcoming release of Sonic 3.
After a catastrophic first presentation in 2019, who could have believed that the films Sonic would ultimately receive such a positive reception from the public? At the time, the film teams were quick to correct the situation in the face of numerous criticisms, so much so that the first film (launched in February 2020) attracted more than 2.1 million spectators in France.

This year 2023 will have allowed fans of SEGA, and more particularly of its mascot Sonicto reconnect with a brand new 2D video game: Sonic Superstars. But it’s been a few years now since Sonic broke the limits of the small screen, with two feature films having enjoyed great success in theaters, notably the second opus. Also, it is logical that Jeff Fowler, the director, confirmed the imminent arrival of Sonic 3.
On the casting side, Sonic 3 will find Ben Schwartz, Colleen O’Shaughnessey and Idris Elba will return, as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles (in VO). It remains to be seen who will lend their voice to the character of Shadow, who will be THE novelty of this Sonic 3.
A third film expected for Christmas… 2024
Indeed, on social networks, we can discover a first image, which announces the start of production of this film Sonic 3. The message already confirms a release scheduled for December 20, 2024 in American theaters.
In the image, we find the character of Shadow, fists clenched, and visibly ready to fight. Remember that players first met this character in Sonic Adventure 2, in the early 2000s on Dreamcast. A few years later (in 2005), the character was even entitled to his own game, with Shadow the Hedgehog on PS2, GameCube and Xbox.
For the record, let us recall that the first film Sonic generated more than 300 million dollars, while its sequel managed to collect more than 400 million greenbacks. It remains to be seen whether this sequel will allow Paramount to exceed half a billion in revenue.
Release scheduled in France on December 18, 2024, two days before the American release.
