Sonic: films and series inspired by Marvel and the Avengers

To everyone’s surprise, Sonic the Movie was a good film, it was a real success at the box office and a sequel has already been released, just as nice. A third feature film will arrive in cinemas at the end of the year, while a series devoted to Knuckles will be broadcast from this month on Paramount+.

SEGA And Paramount Pictures have great ambitions for this cinematographic universe based on cult video games. Franchise producer Toby Ascher spoke with paste and he notably admitted that he wants to create films and series Sonic with the same ambitions as the Avengers of Marvel Cinematic Universe :

We were really excited about the idea of expanding our characters into our world on television, especially because it gives us a platform to really do character studies.

We knew that with Shadow coming to Sonic 3 and some of the bigger things we wanted to do, the Sonic franchise on the movie side would consist of Avengers-level events. These will be big, exciting stories that feature lots of different characters. And so what television did for us was it gave us time to delve deeper into some of the more secondary characters and really develop them in cool ways.

If something works really well and we have a really great story to tell, we’ll definitely expand on it. I don’t think there are any closed doors on future television, future seasons of Knuckles, so everything is wide open. I think it’s important for us to not just make stuff for the sake of making stuff.

As saying that Sonic and his (many) companions will occupy the big and small screens for several more years, if success remains there. Fans are obviously waiting to know which characters will be entitled to their spin-offs After Knuckles. Shadow, Tails, Amy, Cream, Metal SonicTHE Doctor Robotnikthe list is long and all bets are off.

As a reminder, the series Knuckles will be broadcast from April 27 on Paramount+while Sonic 3 will be released in cinemas on December 25. You can also find the first two films on Blu-ray from €21 on Amazon, Cdiscount And there Fnac.
