Sonos’ cheapest soundbar: Ray provides a breath of fresh air


In matters sound quality Sonos makes pretty big promises for such a small soundbar. Accordingly, the Ray with “precisely tuned sound, crystal clear dialogue” and “impressive bass”. DIn fact, this is ensured by no more than two tweeters and two mid-range drivers in conjunction with four digital class D amplifiers. In addition, the American audio specialist uses a few technical tricks.

So comes aInstead of passive membranes, such as the Sonos Beam has on board, the entry-level model has a more cost-effective but definitely effective solution for strong, clear bass for use: Inside are two curved bass reflex tubes installed, which amplify the low frequencies of the two mid-range speakers. Sonos’ Anti-Distortion Technology meanwhile prevents the formation of disturbing background noises. Of course, the soundbar can also be supplemented with a subwoofer, which we will go into more detail about in the next paragraph.

About the Sonos app for iOS and Android, the sound can be adjusted using manual equalizerpreset modes as well trueplay adapt individually or to spatial conditions. However, the latter function is currently only available in conjunction with iOS devices.
