Sony buys Bungie, the creator of Halo and Destiny

After Microsoft’s takeover of Activision Blizzard last weekwe still have the right this week to a takeover, even if this time it is less imposing. Indeed, Sony has decided to buy the Bungie studioto make it a PlayStation Studios studio, for the modest sum of 3.6 billion dollars.

The Bungie studio, which will have seen the birth of licenses like Halo or Destiny, will therefore no longer be independent. After having belonged to Microsoft then to Activision before regaining its independence, the studio is now under the command of Sony. Definitely, Sony has the habit at the moment, the studio having already bought the Delightworks studio, developer of Fate/Grand Order, last December.

For the future, the studio therefore has new plans. New licenses should see the light of day there before 2025, and probably new things on the Destiny side will come in the future. “With the help of SIE, the most immediate change you will see is in the acceleration of talent recruitment to support our ambitious vision“Said Pete Parsons, CEO of the studio, reassuring the fans, after the takeover by a group the size of Sony. Bungie is also a studio aiming at more than just video games, and wants to become a multimedia company. So don’t be surprised in the future if a Destiny series happens.

It is on Twitter that Hermen Hulst, boss of PlayStation Studios, reacted to the news by being very optimistic. He says everyone at the company is excited to work with Bungie members and will be able to learn from their creative methods and knowledge of multiplayer games.

So, at the same point as Delightworks a few months ago, it is now Bungie’s turn to join the ranks of Playstation, which are also growing day by day. The studio is definitely not done to compete with Microsoft.
