The video game industry is undergoing many changes. After Microsoft, Sony could in turn write a page of its history in the cloud and on PC.

In an interview given to Norges Bank Investment Management, the boss of PlayStation spoke at length about the manufacturer’s emerging strategy. Despite the commercial success of its PlayStation 5, the Japanese is well aware that the future will not be written only on consoles.
Sony wants to expand its presence beyond consoles
In recent years, Sony has revised its plans somewhat by offering some of its console exclusives on PC. Until today, the manufacturer’s strategy mainly consists of introducing a range of acclaimed titles on PS4 and PS5 to a new audience, several months, or sometimes even several years, after their initial release.
If this complementarity seems, for the moment at least, to suit Sony’s business, everything suggests that it will not be able to indefinitely fit into the philosophy of the manufacturer, which already seems to be looking beyond the next few years.
Well aware of market developments, Kenichiro Yoshida intends to break the glass ceiling imposed by console exclusions, and thus embrace the openings offered by the worlds of the cloud, PC and mobile. Here is what Yoshida said, as reported to us by our colleagues at Windows Central :
“ The game will be omnipresent. Wherever there is computing, users will be able to play their favorite games seamlessly. While PlayStation will remain our core product, we will expand our gaming experiences to PC, mobile and the cloud “.
By further emancipating itself from the console universe, although the latter will likely remain at the heart of PlayStation’s strategy, Sony finally seems to be taking the path traced by Microsoft a few years earlier.
PlayStation sees AI as a way to support video game creators
In this fascinating interview (available below), the Sony boss furtively addressed the famous question of artificial intelligence and its use in the video game sector. Regarding this, Yoshida expressed his desire to use this technology as ” help for developers ”, and not as a means of replacing them in the medium and long term.
As a reminder, a few days ago we just discovered the possibility that the PS5 Pro could use the power of AI to improve the rendering of games. However, as things currently stand, we have little information to determine how the latter will intervene in the PlayStation ecosystem in the future.
In any case, recent comments made by Kenichiro Yoshida allow us to assume that the gradual arrival of Sony exclusives on PC was not insignificant. The Japanese firm’s objective is now clearer: to conquer PC and cloud gaming in order to extend the brand’s presence beyond its game consoles.
