This is news that should delight vloggers! Sony has just announced the upcoming release of the ECM-G1, a shotgun microphone dedicated to videographers.
Regarding the sound first of all, the ECM-G1 has a large diameter front receiving capsule (approximately 14.6 mm). Also, the supercardioid directivity of this microphone should highlight the sounds located in front of the device to record them clearly. Thus, only the desired sound is optimally captured.
The ECM-G1 promises to record vocals clearly. It has a windscreen and is equipped with shock absorbers to suppress the noise of vibrations of the case. Thus, the shotgun microphone can be used both outdoors and indoors: it limits surrounding ambient noise as well as the echoes and reverberation of voices on the walls.
This microphone also has the possibility of being self-powered if it is used via the Mi Shoe connector, Sony’s multi-interface shoe. To the delight of those who like to travel light, the ECM-G1 is then self-powered and operates without cables or batteries.
Finally, the ECM-G1 is ultra-light (34 g) and ultra-compact (28 x 50.8 x 48.5 mm), which makes it easy to transport. Note that it comes with a 3.5 mm mini-jack audio recording cable.
The ECM-G1 will be available in August at the recommended price of €170.
