From seven references presented by the Japanese brand, we will be particularly interested in the Bravia XR A80L which, in the category of accessible OLED TVs, succeeds the Bravia XR A83K that we tested in our columns. We will also look at the Bravia X95L with miniLED, and finally on the Bravia XR A95L, the creme de la creme of Sony’s offer in terms of visual and multimedia experience.

The Sony Bravia XR A80L is an OLED TV that builds on the technology of its glorious elder, the Bravia XR A83K. It is a very good product to access all your streaming services, to watch movies, series or sports. The Bravia XR A80L is available in four diagonals: 55, 65, 77 and 83 inches. The edges of the screen are surrounded by a dark metal frame.

This model benefits from Sony’s latest state-of-the-art display and processing technologies such as the XR OLED Contrast Pro, or the XR Clear Image which, in Sony’s terms, “brightens and cleans up the image to finally raise it to 4K definition”.

The Bravia XR A80L improves in terms of brightness and contrast

Just like the Bravia A83K, the sound part is provided by the screen itself, thanks to Acoustic Surface Audio+ technology. As no OLED TV will ever be able to reproduce low frequencies as well as a dedicated speaker, the company recommends pairing the Bravia XR A80L to a soundbar wireless.

Bravia TVs all work on Google TV and all major streaming platforms come pre-installed. In addition to Netflix, Disney+, MyCanal, YouTube, Molotov and other Prime Video, you will also find Bravia Core, Sony’s premium service which gives access to dozens of films in 4K and IMax Enhanced.

The Bravia XR X95L is a miniLED TV available in three sizes: 65, 75 and 85 inches

For equal size, the Bravia XR X95L should be cheaper than the Bravia XR A95L. Admittedly, the price difference between OLED and miniLED technologies is tending to narrow, but it is still substantial. There Bravia XR X95L therefore offers a very good quality imageand according to Sony it is particularly suitable for viewing sporting events.

The Bravia XR A95L is Sony’s ultra high-end television

The Bravia XR A95L succeeds the Bravia XR A95K, and therefore incorporates a QD-OLED panel, which uses millions of tiny “quantum dots”, which improves the colorimetric volume and the brightness of the screen. A layer of blue OLEDs is used for backlighting. The result is an image of excellent quality, suitable for watching movies and video games. Sony says it’s the best TV from the catalog.

In addition to having the classic Netflix and other streaming platforms preinstalled, Sony offers a two-year subscription to Bravia Core service with the purchase of a Bravia A95L, just like for the Bravia A80L and the Bravia X95L. If these three miniLED and OLED models are the most striking of the 2023 vintage, Sony is still renewing its LCD offer with four other references: the Bravia X75L, X80L, X85L, and X90L. They are available in diagonals ranging from 43 to 98 inches.

In addition to integrating ever less virgin plastic, the company’s televisions now have a new energy management page called Eco-Dashboard. The latter reveals an easy to understand interface, and according to the company, its use allows to consume 32% less electricity. Additionally, a set of features dedicated to video games, particularly adapted to the PS5, are accessible on several models. The Bravia XR A95L has exclusive options in this area, such as Multi View (a kind of PiP) or even Dolby Vision Gaming.

The Bravia A80L will be marketed in April 2023. The Bravia X95L will be available on our shelves a month later, in May 2023, while the marketing date of the very high-end Bravia A95L is still quite unclear, Sony announcing just a release planned for the second half of the year.
