Sony: two new Xperia smartphones will receive the update to Android 12

Android 12 continues its merry way on the most recent smartphones, but also the older ones. Sony has announced that two new models will benefit from the latest version of Google’s OS: the Xperia 10 II and 10 III.

The deployment of Android 12 continues quietly on the smartphones of the various manufacturers. Sony, which offers on its devices a version of Android very close to that of Android Stock, announces in dribs and drabs the availability of the new version of the OS for its Xperia smartphones.

Android 12 for two additional models

After the Xperia 5 III, Xperia 1 III and II, and Xperia Pro-I in particular, a few weeks ago it was the turn of two additional models to start receiving Android 12. The Xperia 10 II and Xperia 10 III will enjoy it soon. Indeed, after taking care of its high-end phones, Sony is now working to bring Android 12 to its mid-range smartphones.

The news was announced to Sony users and fans via a post on Instagram. No version number or precise timetable has been provided, so there are few details on the progress of the deployment. Sony simply indicates that Android 12 “is coming soon”.

While the Xperia 10 III will undoubtedly still benefit from an additional upgrade in the future (Android 13), it is unlikely that this will be the case for its predecessor, the Xperia 10 II, especially as the Xperia 10 IV begins to reveal themselves.

The latter, launched in 2020, was originally supplied with Android 10: it is therefore already good that it was able to benefit from two major updates. In addition, it is currently unknown whether the Lite version of the Xperia 10 III will also benefit from the upgrade.
