Sony introduced a new lens designed to take pictures from a distance, but with very close focus, the Sony FE 70-200 F4 G OSS II.
On the occasion of the launch of its new APS-C body dedicated to photography, the Sony A6700, the Japanese manufacturer also presented a new E-mount lens, compatible with both APS-C sensor and full frame mirrorless cameras. of the brand. This is the new Sony FE 70-200 F4 G OSS II.
As its name suggests, it is a zoom lens with a constant focal aperture of f/4, offering a tight field of view with a focal length ranging from 70 to 200 mm. The pebbles are also stabilized as indicated by the suffix ” OSS and so this is the second version.
Remember that the first Sony FE 70-200 F4 G OSS was launched nine years ago already, in 2014. Since then, Sony has particularly worked on its copy to allow better image quality, a more compact lens and better responsiveness. . This is reflected, in particular, for responsiveness, by the integration of four linear motors for fast autofocus, capable of keeping up with the rate of a burst at 30 frames per second offered by the Sony A1. According to the firm, autofocus tracking would have been improved by around 20% compared to the first generation.
The Sony FE 70-200 F4 G OSS II lens is also lighter than its predecessor with a weight of 794 grams, against 840 grams, and more compact with a length of 149 mm, against 175 mm.
A lens suitable for close-up photography
Sony also announces effective capabilities for close-up photography, since its new lens allows a magnification ratio of x0.5 regardless of the focal length used. Thus, it is able to focus at 26 cm from the subject when used in 70 mm mode and at 42 cm when used in 200 mm. Enough to take particularly close subjects.
For the rest of the optical design, the Sony FE 70-200 F4 G OSS II features 19 elements in 13 groups and a 9-blade diaphragm for round bokeh beads.
The Sony FE 70-200 F4 G OSS II will be available at the end of July. It will be offered at a price of 2000 euros and compatible with both full frame and APS-C bodies – for a 105-300 mm equivalent focal range.
