Microsoft and Sony have been competing for gamers’ favor for years with their Xbox and PlayStation consoles. At times there was talk of “console war”. Microsoft even deliberately instigated this.
Especially in the years after the turn of the millennium, the term “console war” was used more and more frequently, which dramatically titled the competition between Microsoft’s Xbox and Sony’s PlayStation, especially on the Internet.
Microsoft is said to have deliberately built this console war, as former Xbox boss Peter Moore says in a podcast on “Front Office Sports”: “We built the console wars and encouraged them, not to divide, but to challenge each other.”
If Microsoft had simply given up on the Xbox, the gaming world would have been a sadder one, adds Moore.
Today there are two huge publishers investing billions of dollars in their gaming divisions and this is a boon for both the industry and gamers.
The latest consoles from the two companies are the Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and the PS5. While the Microsoft consoles are now both readily available, the PS5 continues to be hard to come by.
