Almost a year and a half after the launch of the Xperia Pro-I, Sony is working on a successor. The next flagship of the Japanese manufacturer would capitalize on the main quality of its predecessor, but going further. Sony would indeed rely on the addition of two 1 “sensors instead of just one on the back of its mobile.
At the end of 2021, Sony proudly launched its Xperia Pro-I. Positioned on the top of the range, the device notably claimed a photo experience worthy of image professionals, and gave itself, at least on paper, the means of its ambitions with the integration of a large Exmor RS photo sensor. of 1 inch, supposed to offer 2.4µm pixels“. If the latter was ultimately only partially used, the Xperia Pro-I still offered a high-flying photo experience, as we indicated in detail in our test.
In this summer of 2023, and while the Xperia Pro-I now seems a little forgotten, we learn that Sony would be well at work on a successor… and that the latter would double the bet with the presumed integration not of a 1 inch sensor, but two.
Two 1″ sensors for the price of one?
In any case, this is what renders having leaked in Japan suggest, and relayed by the specialized siteGSMArena. We discover the supposed design of the new Xperia Pro-I II, with the presence of two large 1-inch sensors positioned, one above the other, at the back of the device. A design and a rather credible approach, even if it is better to take tweezers while waiting for a leak of additional information, ideally coming from other sources; or downright a teasing start from Sony via official channels.

As GSMArena points out, another rumor has recently emerged. This time, it suggests that a future Sony smartphone, without giving more immediate details, would be equipped with a “pixel sensor having two layers of stacked transistors“. Something to reshuffle the cards a bit, although it is not known at this stage whether this rumor concerns this potential Xperia Pro-I II or another device. Here again, caution… and patience.
