Soon furnace cities? Why all is not lost

With global warming, it will be even hotter than elsewhere in town. The reason: the “urban heat island” effect, identified two hundred years in London: the very texture of cities (morphology, materials used) retains heat. If it was very useful during the harsh winters of the 19e century, today, as the climate crisis becomes clearer, the phenomenon worries the public authorities of French cities, where 80% of the metropolitan population lives.

So what to do? Will city dwellers have to leave urban areas to survive heat waves? A Météo-France simulator is used to assess techniques for limiting the impact of heat waves on our cities. Cities, which like LilleLyon or Parishave already undertaken major projects to remain livable.
