Apple is reportedly working on a device capable of updating its iPhones remotely, while they are still in their box. In this way, the manufacturer would save valuable time for its users, who will no longer have to install the latest version of iOS during the first startup after purchase.
When you buy a new smartphone in a store or online, you generally need to install the latest update available when you first start it. The thing is rather logical: most of the time, the device is boxed with the latest version of its operating system available at that time. If we have come to terms with this idea over time, for lack of a solution, that does not mean that it is inevitable.
Indeed, it seems that Apple is working on a solution to this thorny problem. This one also has a name : “Presto”. According to journalist Mark Gurman, who reveals this information in the same newsletter as the details about iOS 18 that we have already discussed, Presto will soon be deployed in all Apple Stores in the United States. The device will have a specific goal: to end updates on first startup.
Apple wants to end first-time updates
To do this, Apple is deploying a new device capable of launching an update on iPhones without touching them. In other words, Apple Store employees will be able to update your smartphone upon purchase, without needing to take it out of its box. When you use it for the first time, all you have to do is configure it without having to wait for the latest version of iOS to be installed.
