South Africa: Bus accident kills at least 45 people

March 28 (Reuters) – A bus crash near the town of Mamatlakala in northern South Africa killed at least 45 people, the transport ministry said on Thursday, saying the driver was believed to be lost control of the vehicle on a bridge, from where the bus apparently fell, before catching fire when landing below.

In a statement, the ministry said the bus was carrying passengers from Botswana to the South African town of Moria in the northern Limpopo province.

Rescue operations continued Thursday evening. Charred corpses were taken from the bus. (Urvi Dugar in Bangalore; French version Jean Terzian)
