South Region: six months of public transport will be offered in exchange for the sale of your polluting vehicle

The objective is to encourage users to prefer public transport to the car. A one-stop shop will be created in the coming weeks.

Polluting car against unlimited train: this is the original deal unveiled in mid-December by the South region to encourage the development of public transport on a daily basis. The executive led by Renaud Muselier and the metropolis of Aix-Marseille-Provence intend to offer six months of public transport subscription to all users who resell their Crit’Air 5 vehicle, the most polluting level according to the government. Purpose : “move towards sustainable and environmentally friendly transport“.

If the exact terms will be defined in the coming weeks, the system will be managed via a one-stop shop. In concrete terms, eligible persons will be entitled to six months free on the monthly subscription of the Integral Pass, including “all TER services” in the metropolis and normally paid 73 euros per month.

This measure “will encourage users to prefer public transport to the car“, hopes Renaud Muselier. It will also complete the traffic ban imposed by the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolis on Crit’Air 5 and unclassified vehicles, which no longer have access, since last September, to the city and its surroundings. In 2018, the metropolis also introduced a bonus for the purchase of an electric vehicle. “The Department is [ainsi] became in 2020 the first in France in number of registrations of electric cars. By 2035, the entire fleet of vehicles operated by the Régie des transports métropolitains will be electric“, assures Martine Vassal, president of the Aix-Marseille-Provence metropolis.
