Authorities have approved 627 wind turbines so far in 2023

Is wind power gaining momentum again in Germany? Current figures from the Federal Network Agency at least give reason for hope. Accordingly, more than 600 systems will be approved in the first half of the year. But they are very unevenly distributed across the country.

According to a report, a total of 627 new wind turbines were approved in Germany in the first half of the year. As the SWR reported, citing data from the Federal Network Agency, there are still clear differences between the federal states in the expansion of wind power. From the beginning of January to the end of June, more than 100 new permits were issued in North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein – in Bavaria, however, only three. The Federal Ministry of Economics sees a positive trend.

According to the SWR, significantly more wind turbines were again planned in the northern federal states. In Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein, 117 permits were issued in the first six months – and thus significantly more than in the same period last year. With 182, most wind turbine permits were granted in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The federal government wants to significantly accelerate the expansion of wind turbines in order to achieve its climate protection goals. By 2030, 80 percent of electricity should come from renewable sources.

The Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection told the SWR that the house sees a positive trend in permits, especially in northern Germany. The expansion must nevertheless be “further accelerated”.
