A year and a half after unveiling its national strategy for a trusted French sovereign cloud, the government announced new measures, on the sidelines of its visit to the new OVHcloud datacenter.
Fully inscribed in his portfolio, industrial and digital sovereignty was in the spotlight on Monday in Strasbourg for Bruno Le Maire, who attended the inauguration of the new OVHcloud data center in Strasbourg, 18 months after the fire in his data center. data, which the company is still dragging around like a millstone. The Minister of Economy and Finance was not alone! He was accompanied by the government’s digital gentleman, Jean-Noël Barrot, and the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton. Bruno Le Maire, at the maximum of his concentration on the photos, took the opportunity to announce new measures aimed at supporting the development of the state cloud strategy.
Facilitate accessibility of the popular SecNumCloud visa
Bearing in mind that the Cloud computing sector could generate, by 2030 in Europe, some 560 billion euros in turnover, the government launched, in May 2021, a national strategy for the Cloud. It focuses on a “Cloud at the center” doctrine, through the digital transformation of administrations and the development of French technological projects.
But above all, this strategy is based on the SecNumCloud, this visa very popular with cloud computing players which guarantees their customers a sufficiently high level of protection for the most sensitive data. OVHcloud is also one of the operators selected by the State and the ANSSI (National Agency for Information Systems Security) which distribute qualified offers, in the same way as Cloud Temple, Oodrive, Outscale and Worldline.
Accompaniment towards obtaining this SecNumCloud visa for SMEs is in this regard one of the five measures intended to continue the development of this national Cloud strategy. It must be said that obtaining this certification is expensive for companies. ANSSI therefore receives an envelope of 2.5 million euros, which will allow start-ups and SMEs offering certain Cloud services (PaaS or SaaS) to be accompanied towards this certification.
A desire to assert oneself on the European level first, then in the face of the giants afterwards
Supporting administrations in their digital transformation is also essential. The government intends to clarify the notion of particularly sensitive data, in order to best guide both public and private buyers towards offers that may be SecNumCloud certified.
The government also wants to see the establishment, at European Union level, of cybersecurity certification for cloud services. The presence of Thierry Breton on Monday in Strasbourg was important in this sense, the EU not hiding its desire to rebalance a market today dominated by three non-European players, namely Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud.
The French State also hopes for validation as soon as possible of the Important Project of Common European Interest (IPCEI) Cloud, symbolized by around sixty projects carried out by dozens of European companies (including Orange, OVHcloud, Atos or Amadeus ) who aspire to create the next generation of Cloud and Edge Computing services. An investment of 5 billion euros, supported by the public and the private sector.
Finally, the general manager of OVHcloud, Michel Paulin, will have to present to the ministers, within six months, a proposal grouping together the composition, governance and objectives of a new “trusted digital” sector strategic committee (CSF). , which will soon be created to bring out a competitive French offer.
