It’s not every day that a new player appears on the relatively closed market of SIN. UGREEN opens the door…
At Clubic, we are used to testing a relatively wide range of NAS from various manufacturers such as the recent F2-223 from TerraMaster, the test of which was published just this morning.
Alongside the Chinese manufacturer, we also quite often test models from the leader in the field, Synology, or its closest competitors, QNAP, ASUSTOR, Western Digital. It could be that a new thief will join the party very soon.
First in the USA and Germany
Little known in France, the company UGREEN is launching a Kickstarter campaign to raise awareness about its new range of products, NAS, with the United States and Germany in the sights, initially.
Given the proximity between France and Germany, we should also be able to discover the UGREEN NAS on our side of the Rhine. We are currently talking about the launch of six products from DXP480T to the more imposing DXP8800 Plus with the notable absence of any so-called rackmount NAS which is primarily intended for the business market.
During the Kickstarter campaign, UGREEN is announcing significant price reductions with prices reportedly starting at $239.99 and going up to $1,499.99 on the most expensive model.
Intel Core 12th Gen
For this first round of NAS, UGREEN is still based on Intel CPUs, in this case 12th generation models with, depending on the case, Intel Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 processors.
The most ambitious NAS models – DXP6800 Pro, DXP8800 Pro and DXP480T – all come with two Thunderbolt 4 ports, ports to which a wide variety of peripherals can be connected. The first two mentioned also have the particularity of being equipped with a double RJ45 10 GbE interface with the possibility of link aggregation.
Initially, there is also talk of offering a minimum of 8 GB of DDR5-4800 memory with numerous expansion possibilities, up to 64 GB in the case of the 4800 Plus, DXP6800 Pro, DXP8800 Plus and DXP480T Plus. Finally, UGREEN highlights the use of SHA256 encryption and the presence of an application – Security Manager – for system monitoring with real-time protection and antivirus checking.
Nothing particularly innovative in all the points put forward by UGREEN, but enough to position itself as a credible competitor to the brands we are used to. Hoping for an official arrival in France soon…
