Speech by Jean Castex: Internet users exasperated by his statements: Femme Actuelle The MAG

“Reconfinement will not take place”, Jean Giraudoux might write today. At least, not yet … Contrary to what the government's statements in several media suggested at the end of January, Emmanuel Macron did not choose the option of containment in the face of the spread of Covid-19 and the threat of its variants in France. In the meantime, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Friday evening, January 29, 2021, a strengthening of the curfew already in place two weeks earlier. The goal ? Avoid said re-containment at all costs and protect the mental and economic health of the French. On Thursday February 4, 2021, during a press conference, the head of government once again recalled the measures put in place to fight against the coronavirus in France, and detailed the action plan. A re-containment of at least three weeks was notably announced in Mayotte.

No re-containment planned for the moment

After greeting "The remarkable commitment of caregivers who remain fully mobilized despite the accumulated fatigue", Jean Castex declares: “If the situation remains worrying, it differs from that of our neighbors. Our numbers are high, but they are relatively stable. ” And to raise the question of the famous third confinement: “Containment, we know the health effects, but we also know the economic, social and sometimes even health cost.” However, he adds firmly: “Further containment can only be considered as a very last resort. If we are forced to do so in the event of a sharp and rapid deterioration in the situation, we would not hesitate ", then insist: “Telecommuting wherever possible becomes imperative.” As for the February holidays, travel limits will not be in place for the moment. A re-containment during the winter holidays cannot be ruled out, however. Following the statements of Jean Castex, the Minister of Health Olivier Véran, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of Labor Elisabeth Borne and the Minister Delegate in charge of Industry Agnès Pannier-Runacher have, each in their field , insisted on the measures applied and to be applied.

"Monopolize Thursday evenings to say nothing"

On Twitter, many Internet users have found this press conference simply unnecessary … and many are those who have made it known. “25 minutes of wind, we learned absolutely nothing during this speech”, "3 minutes to say that confinement would be good, but actually no, because it should, but we are not going to do it …", “A real shame this speech tonight”, “I'm not saying it's not useful but at this point it is at best Father of the Nation, at worst it's totally infantilizing”, “It wouldn't be bad if the government stopped monopolizing Thursday evenings to say nothing”, can we read, among others, on the social network of the blue bird. To conclude the press conference, the Prime Minister for his part deplored the “Eternal criticism and the self-flagellation that we too often give in.” There is therefore no risk of being disappointed.
