Splinter Cell, Ubisoft announces a remake of the original

Splinter Cell is back as Ubisoft has just announced that the Ubisoft Toronto studio is working on a complete remake of the original opus. The studio took the time to make it clear (source in English) that it was not a remaster but a remake, so the game was going to be totally redeveloped in order to take advantage of the new technologies available. The original opus of the franchise having been released 19 years ago, this remake will therefore be a homecoming for the saga.

Splinter Cell and Sam Fisher return in remake of the original

As the remakes and remasters multiply, Ubisoft jumped at the opportunity to rework on the first installment of the Splinter Cell franchise. So, while we have been waiting for years for a new AAA game (and not a VR) on consoles and PC, the studio has opted for a fairly classic route: nostalgia.

However, the idea of doing a complete remake, understanding to recode everything and redo the game using new technologies, is a good idea since it allows to lay the foundations for new opus (the last line of the article published by Ubisoft) while playing on the nostalgia of the first opus.

Ubisoft notably announced that they will use the Snowdrop engine, its cutting edge technology used for the Avatar game and the new Star Wars game. Thus, one must expect breathtaking graphics and first-rate realism.

A release date for Splinter Cell remake?

For now, no specific release date has been announced. All we know about it is that the studio has been working on the Splinter Cell remake for some time, but the work is still in progress. It seems unlikely that the title will be available for at least a year. We will therefore probably have to wait for E3 2022 to have an update on the progress of development and perhaps a first idea of a release date.

So much for all the information regarding the announcement made by Ubisoft concerning the development of a remake of the original opus of the Splinter Cell franchise. You can find more information on video games and esports news on Gamosaurus.
