Spotify bought the game Heardle and is thinking of integrating it into its application to boost musical discoveries.

Players will now be redirected to Spotify to fully listen to the guessing track.

Heardle : the wordle musical

Heardle is inspired by the phenomenon wordlea daily game of New York Times where players guess a new word every day. Heardle uses the same principle, but makes you guess musical titles from the intro of each song. The player must get it right in less than six tries. Every day, we have to guess a new song as quickly as possible: it’s fun, it allows us to stay connected with our friends with whom we can share and compare our results. The game already has millions of followers.

For Spotify, Heardle could be a fun way to introduce new artists to the general public. Users of Heardle will be redirected to the music streaming platform after guessing the title, but Heardle remains for the moment a separate site. However, Spotify would eventually like to integrate it directly into the application.

Fans disappointed by the takeover

The takeover left a number of fans with Heardle helpless. Some can no longer access the game, or have lost their statistics. Users report bugs and error messages, while Spotify promised that the game would remain the same, free and accessible. Indeed, the game is now only available in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, United States, Australia and New Zealand. Disappointed fans are expressing their displeasure on Twitter.

Spotify strives to remain innovative by integrating more and more fun and collective features. In 2021, the music giant notably added real-time lyrics to a large number of songs. Then, the collaborative playlists appeared, and before that, the Spotify Wrapped, a recap of its year on the application which is experiencing viral success thanks to sharing on social networks. Recently, Spotify created Supergrouper, a tool that generates a personalized playlist with a few of your favorite artists. This last feature is not yet available in France.
