Through a letter addressed to the European Commission, around thirty companies wanted to denounce Apple’s new measures on the Old Continent. The latter are accused (among other things) of “ to make fun of » the DMA.
On its official website, the Spotify group wanted to publish an official letter this March 1, to the attention of European commissioners Thierry Breton and Margrethe Vestager, responsible for the new legislation concerning digital markets (DMA).
A letter to the EU signed by 34 companies
For several weeks now, many web giants have expressed their reservations regarding the measures taken by Apple to comply with the DMA. It was on January 25 that the American giant announced several modifications concerning its iOS operating system. But for several web giants, the reforms will not bring the expected benefits. On March 1, Spotify published a letter to European commissioners, with the support of around thirty signatories.
Among the signatories, we find in particular the music streaming services Deezer and Spotify of course, but also the groups Proton, Cafeyn, Blockchain.com and the American studio Epic Games.
Remember that Apple is not the only giant targeted by this DMA, since Google, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft and ByteDance must also submit to various obligations.
New conditions that make a mockery of the DMA?
According to the press release published by Spotify: “ Apple’s new terms not only ignore the spirit and letter of the law, but if left unchanged, make a mockery of the DMA “. Obviously, everyone agrees that the plan proposed by Apple is not able to meet the requirements of the new legislation.
In the absence of new concrete proposals from Apple, the signatories urge the European Commission to take rapid, timely and decisive action against the American group. This is to protect developers, but also to benefit consumers, as soon as the DMA obligations apply, this Thursday, March 7.
Remember that Apple is one of the most scrutinized players with regard to the DMA, since the American giant has a large ecosystem that has been locked for a long time, of which it controls all of the parameters, a serious abuse of dominant position according to the new legislation. To be continued.
