It’s official, the most famous of music streaming platform has just revealed its ambitions for the end of the year. The opportunity to reveal to us its number of paying subscribers and active users.
You probably guessed it, it’s of course Spotify in question. And the least we can say is that the platform is doing very well!
Spotify still the leader, but…
No less than 433 million listeners therefore access Spotify each month. The platform, which now has no less than 188 million subscribers, expects its active user base to reach 450 million by next October.
If they can turn heads, these figures make it possible to affirm the dominance of the platform in the field of music streaming. Undisputed leader, Spotify wanders far ahead of its main competitor, Apple Music. In June 2019, the Cupertino company announced that its service had 60 million subscribers, before suddenly ceasing to communicate its figures publicly. However, according to data shared by the MIDiA research group, Spotify currently holds more than double the market share held by Apple Music, which stands at around 15%.
Nevertheless, it is important to note that Spotify generated considerable losses during the last quarter. Losses still amounting to 125 million euros. Remember that the company notably made two new acquisitions in the field of podcasting at the start of the year and that it recently bought Heardle, the music discovery game.
Anyway, after revealing total 188 million subscribers, the Swede intends to reach 194 million paying subscribers by the end of the third quarter. What, perhaps, to continue to widen the gap with its competitors and to ensure its place as number 1.
