21.3 degrees were reached in the Magadino plain, as SRF Meteo announced. This is the second highest temperature ever measured there in January. Only on January 19, 2007 was it even warmer at 23.7 degrees. Because of the foehn, the storm on the Matro ob Biasca reached a value of 102 kilometers per hour on Sunday night. 113 kilometers per hour were measured on the Bernina Pass in the canton of Graubünden.
Not only was it warm and sunny in Ticino, there had been no precipitation for weeks. In addition, the stormy Föhn has dried out the soil further, which is why there is a great risk of forest fires throughout Ticino and in the southern valleys of Graubünden.
Temperatures in the north were also in the mild range on Sunday after a weak disturbance brought some local rain during the night. In Schaffhausen, for example, 10.0 degrees were measured. More than 10 degrees were also reached at the southern foot of the Jura, as SRF Meteo continued.
According to SRF Meteo, heavy rainfall is expected in the mountains on the north side of the Alps from Monday to Wednesday. Especially in the northern Alps and Pre-Alps, especially to the east, 60 to 100 centimeters of fresh snow are possible until Wednesday evening. In the lowlands it is probably only enough for sugared meadows.
From Monday to Wednesday, hurricane gusts with peaks in the range of 150 kilometers per hour are possible on the mountains every day. In the lowlands, gusts of wind between 50 and 80 kilometers per hour are expected. The danger level 3 of 5 applies to both the amount of snow and the wind strength, i.e. considerable. The avalanche danger increases.
In the south, the north foehn situation continues to provide strong to stormy winds, SRF Meteo continues.
