After the Summit last week, some of the best smashers on the planet will face off again in a tournament that promises to be one to remember. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
General informations
The Collision is a prestigious tournament, which has settled on the Smash scene since the late 2000s. Unlike EVO, it hasn’t had a big name change, just going from the number of tournaments (Collision I, II, XV etc) to the current year (Collision 2019, 2021 etc). The cashprize is certainly less important than for the Summit, and depends on the number of participants. That of this year is announced around $11,000, with the following distribution: 40% for the first, 40%, 20% for the second, 15% for the third, 10% for the fourth, 5% for the fifth/sixth and 2.5% for the seventh/eighth. It will take place on March 12 and 13, 2022 in the USA (until the night of March 13 to 14 at home). Here are the precise French timetables:
- Saturday March 12, 2022:
– start of the double tournament groups at 4 p.m.
– Top 16 doubles at 6 p.m.
– Beginning of the solo tournament at 8 p.m. until Sunday 2 a.m. - Sunday March 13, 2022:
– Start of the top 128 (solo) at 5:30 p.m.
– Top 32 at 7:30 p.m.
– Top 16 at 9:30 p.m.
– Top 8 at midnight on March 14
In terms of streams, the tournament will be broadcast in the language of Shakespeare on the official channel of the event. Solary will cast Sunday games on their chainin the language of Molière.
The rules
The tournament will follow classic Smash rules. Authorized stages will be Battlefield, Final Destination, Small Battlefield, Pokémon Stadium 2, and Smashville. It will also be possible for the loser to select Town & City or Hollow Bastion in counterstage. Before the first game, some stages will be banned by both players. Player 1 (determined by a Shifumi or a Heads or Tails) banishes a stage first, player 2 banishes two in turn, then player 1 banishes a final one. These bans are only valid for the next set, during the following set all the authorized arenas are again selectable. The winner of each match will still be able to ban two stages from this list after each set, before their opponent chooses from the last selectable arenas. Each player will have 3 stocks (life) per set, and these will last for a maximum of 7 minutes. The group stage of the solo tournament and the doubles tournament are played in FT2 (BO3). From the Top 128 solo and the Top 3 doubles, the matches will become FT3 (BO5).
At the character level, the winner of the previous set must announce his character, then the loser announces his. All versions of Mii are allowed. Of course the Smash Meter, objects, and spirits are prohibited, as well as any element that can bring randomness.
