Star Citizen is a game that tends to tense the spirits with its supporters and its detractors. And it is not this news that will improve things.
We know that Star Citizen already has a fairly pharaonic budget, but it has just taken a new step by making it one of the most expensive games in the history of video games. In 2021, the Cloud Imperium Games studio had revised its ambitions upwards with the desire to open a 7th studio in Manchester. Delusions of grandeur then.
Crazy money for Star Citizen
Indeed, the title has just crossed the $500 million. Yes, half a billion for the space game, it’s simply crazy when you know the level of progress of the game, which is certainly playable but which is far from keeping its initial promises. Note all the same to talk about figures, that more than 4 million players around the world have participated in the financing of the game. And the cursor continues to progress with sums which are continuing to rise peacefully. In terms of budget, it’s more than the development of Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA V combined.
For the moment, there is only one solar system that it is possible to visit (which is already huge). But we are still far from the presence of a huge narrative solo campaign which also represents a good part of the financing in terms of interest. This fall the game should benefit from the 3.18 update with the redesign of the Kreah station and the recycling of ships.
