Mike Pinder is from Birmingham

Pinder was the last surviving member of the original Moody Blues line-up. He was born in Birmingham in 1941. In 1964 he founded the “Moodies” together with Graeme Edge (1941-2021), Ray Thomas (1941-2018), Clint Warwick (1940-2004) and the singer Denny Laine (1944-2023). The group rose to fame in 1965 with their cover of Bessie Banks’ ballad “Go Now.” Pinder co-wrote many of the group’s early original pieces with Laine.

At the peak of their career, the group sold more than 50 million records, according to media reports. The Moody Blues’ most famous single is “Nights in White Satin.” Originally released in November 1967 to moderate success, it entered the charts again in 1972, staying at number two on the US charts for two weeks.

The group took a break in the mid-1970s. Pinder released a solo album entitled “The Promise”. He returned to the Moodies in 1978 for their reunion album Octave, but decided not to stay with the band. He moved to California with his family and worked in the tech industry. In 1994 he released a second solo album.
