Star Trek: good news for fans of the intergalactic franchise

The saga Star Trek soon back at the cinema? In any case, it’s on the right track since Paramount Pictures has just announced that the next film in the intergalactic franchise has found its director, in the person of Toby Haynes.

A prequel to the JJ Abrams film

Although his name may not mean anything to you, Toby Haynes is nevertheless a knowledgeable television director. Since the start of his career in the 2000s, he has directed episodes of prestigious programs Sherlock, Doctor Who, Utopia or the Star Wars series Andor for the Disney+ platform.

And as if to come full circle, it is to him that we also owe the episode of season 4 of Black Mirror titled USS Callisterwhich was already a (successful) homage to the world of Gene Roddenberry.

This new film, written by Seth Grahame-Smith (Lego Batman, the movie, On the other side), is announced as a return to basics and an “origin story”, which takes place decades before the JJ Abrams reboot, released in 2009.

If the details of the story are still kept secret, we know that this future feature film Star Trek is produced by JJ Abrams, via his company Bad Robots, and that it should “extend” the universe of the saga.

While the franchise Star Wars has been developing for a decade on the big screen and in streaming, the Star Trek saga has not seen a cinematic adventure since Star Trek: Limitless in 2016.

While the film’s direct sequel is apparently still in active development at Paramount, Trekkies may be feeling frustrated.

Fortunately for them, fans have been able to catch up in recent years on the small screen, and with many series of rather good quality: Picard, Discovery, Lower Decks, Prodigy, Strange New Worlds…

No release date or official title has yet been indicated for this future film Star Trekbut The Digitals will obviously keep you informed.
