Star Trek: Is the hype now fizzling out? Where is the trailer for “Discovery” season 5?

• 2023 was a good year for Trekkies, but unfortunately 2024 will be a tough year. The reason is the actors’ strike.
• Two hit series launched this year: “Picard” Season 3 and “SNW” Season 2. “Discovery” will follow next year.
• It’s the final season, but it’s barely advertised and the hype is gradually dying down. Why does Paramount allow this?

There will be few new “Star Trek” series next year due to the actors’ union strike, but one we can look forward to is “Star Trek: Discovery” Season 5. The final season of Paramount+’s former powerhouse has been announced confirmed next year and has already filmed.

So far, a short trailer and a 5-minute clip have been released at Comic-Con in San Diego, otherwise there is little promotional material and after this year with the final “Star Trek: Picard” season, the second “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” season and the new “Star Trek: Lower Decks” episodes were a great year for Trekkies, Paramount now doesn’t seem to be capitalizing on this momentum at all.

Star Trek: The final “Star Trek: Discovery” season is scheduled to start in 2024 – with drums and trumpets?

With the third season of “Star Trek: Picard”, the series was finally able to assert itself as a fan favorite at the beginning of the year and start a real hype. Afterwards, “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” this year continued where the first season left off claimed to be Paramount+’s new driving force.

At that point it was already clear that “Star Trek: Discovery” would be canceled and would no longer be seen as the streaming service’s mainstay. Viewership wasn’t strong enough and the budget was too high. However, the final season is still pending and we wanted to celebrate it properly.

But then the actors’ union strike intervened in the middle of the year, meaning that stars like Sonequa Martin-Green and Doug Jones couldn’t promote the final season and Paramount kept its feet still. A short trailer and a clip exclusively withheld from visitors were shown at Comic-Con, but there is nothing more.

Since the strike also prevented work on other novelties in the “Star Trek” universe such as “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” or “Star Trek: Section 31”, next year there is actually only “Star Trek: Discovery” left “…and Paramount shouldn’t just let the hype of 2023 fizzle out.

Star Trek Discovery: The finale is not a good star!

“Discovery” was heavily criticized from the start. The episodic structure, the dark design. For many fans, this wasn’t the “Star Trek” they came to know and love with “Star Trek” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”

Although “Star Trek: Discovery” turned out to be a success, and the series opened the doors to all the other new series, “Discovery” itself never quite took off in later seasons. And now the series comes to an end – with drums and trumpets? Or is it more likely to perish like this?

It’s surprising that Paramount+ isn’t promoting it at all. After all, it was once said that the new season would start in spring 2024. The release, which still hasn’t been released, was probably pushed back internally to the summer in order to better bridge the long wait for “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” Season 3.

But by summer, any hype that might have built up this year seems to have fizzled out. The long wait without information requires a lot of good will from us. What could have worked on its own soon seems to become a laborious process of pushing an advertising machine.

Star Trek: Why isn’t Paramount+ letting it ride on the hype of SNW and Picard?

Many Trekkies certainly get a Paramount+ subscription not just for one series, but to watch several series at the same time. So it’s not unlikely that many users will drop out next year because no new “Star Trek” stories have been published for too long.

Due to the critical reception of “Star Trek: Discovery”, it is possible that even those who want to give the series another chance will not jump on board again, but will wait until SNW season 3 starts and then just “Star Trek: Discovery” look at it at the same time.

Paramount+ should actually be clear about this. Still, the finale of “Star Trek: Discovery” doesn’t seem to be heavily promoted or released in tandem with another series. Instead, it is released as a single highlight in a year that is relatively poor in Star Trek.

The streaming service is probably just waiting for the strike to finally end so that it can drum up advertising with the help of the stars. That was actually planned before the strike. There should be fan events, a lot of hustle and bustle, to get as many spectators on board as possible.

Of course, the longer we wait, the more difficult it will be to get the advertising campaign rolling again, since “Star Trek” will no longer be on everyone’s lips in a few months. The streaming service is probably aware of this, but the hope of an early agreement in the strike was probably higher than the fear that there would be such a long lull.

Now this path has been taken and there is probably no turning back and so we have to wait.
