As reported Variety, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has just been renewed for a season 4… but we unfortunately know that the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks will end with its season 5.

Even more exploration of the universe

While filming season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is underway, the series created by Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet has already been renewed for an additional season by Paramount+.

It must be said that this prequel to the original series from the 1960s has enjoyed great success on the streaming platform since its release in 2022 and is particularly appreciated by fans of the franchise.

Its tale follows Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and his crew aboard the USS Enterprise as they explore the galaxy in the time before Captain Kirk. Season 3 of the show is expected on Paramount+ in 2025.

For its part, the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks will indeed return for a season 5… but unfortunately this will also be the last. This comedy created by Mike McMahan chronicles the adventures of the crew of the most insignificant ship in the Starfleet fleet, the USS Cerritos. On board, officers Mariner, Boimler, Rutherford and Tendi juggle between their duties and their lives.

“It has been incredibly rewarding to continue building the Star Trek universe, and we are so grateful to Secret Hideout and our extremely talented cast and producers,” said Jeff Grossman, executive vice president of programming at Paramount+.

“Strange New Worlds found the perfect blend of action, adventure and humor. Likewise, Star Trek: Lower Decks brought laughter and emotion to the franchise over its four seasons. We We can’t wait for audiences to see what awaits the crew of the USS Cerritos in this final season.”

The universe of Star Trek on television is overseen by Alex Kurtzman through his production company Secret Hideout and produced by CBS Studios. In addition to its new seasons to come, other projects are in the pipeline including a TV film entitled Star Trek: Section 31 with Michelle Yeoh, and a new series which will begin filming later this year, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.

The first two seasons of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and the four seasons of Lower Deck can be seen or rewatched on Paramount+, the offer of which is accessible to Canal+ subscribers and via Prime Video.
