With Season 3 of Star Trek: Picard, Jean-Luc Picard’s (Patrick Stewart) journey comes to an end. In the second episode, it was revealed that Picard has a son: Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers). Thematically and also in terms of the plot, many associations with “Star Trek II – The Wrath of Khan” and “Star Trek III – In Search of Mr. Spock” are aroused.
In the “Star Trek” films with William Shatner as James T. Kirk, we meet Kirk’s son David (Merritt Butrick). This is not only Kirk’s son, but also Kirk’s ex-Dr. Carol Marcus (Bibi Besch). Kirk hadn’t known about their son and is surprised when he sees Carol again.
David is not very fond of his father and blames him a lot. Kirk, on the other hand, must first understand that he has a grown son who he didn’t know about for many years. Here the plot is very similar to that of Jean-Luc and Jack.
Here, too, Jean-Luc knows nothing about his son and later meets a young man and no child. Like David, Jack doesn’t seem too fond of his “legendary” and heroic father. The fact that a female Dr. (Marcus and Crusher) as exes makes the parallels perfect!
In “Star Trek III: In Search of Mr. Spock” David has finally reconciled with his father and even helps him to find Mr. Spock. However, he dies in battle, leaving Kirk mourning. Whether “Star Trek: Picard” season 3 will also be based on this development?
