Warning, there are spoilers for the second episode of “Star Trek: Picard” Season 3!

  • In “Star Trek: Picard” season 3, Jack Crusher is the son of Jean-Luc Picard and Dr. Beverly Crusher introduced.
  • Fans speculate that there were already plans in “Starship Enterprise – The Next Century” to make the two parents of a child together.
  • So there should be a rejected story in which it turns out that Wesley Crusher is actually Jean-Luc’s son.

With Jack Crusher (Ed Speleers), Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) now has a son together with Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden). According to some, this won’t be the first time there have been plans for the two to have a son together.

Picard as Wesley’s father: A discarded ‘Star Trek’ plot?

In the first season of “Star Trek: The Next Century,” Picard and Beverly’s relationship is relatively awkward. Sometimes Beverly can’t even look Jean-Luc in the eye. So it seems a bit strange that she herself had explicitly asked to be deployed aboard the Enterprise, knowing full well that Picard would command the ship.

She also regularly arranges for Wesley and Picard to meet and hang out, so Picard reluctantly becomes something of a father figure to Wesley. It’s no wonder that even then there were rumors that Beverly and Jean-Luc were having an affair and that Wesley was actually Picard’s son.

Then, in the episode “The Arms Dealers,” Beverly reveals that she has a secret that she didn’t want to tell Picard. While it is implied that this is just that she loves him, which would also explain the other behavior patterns just described, it also implied something more!

Star Trek: Would someone like Picard have an affair?

Assuming there were indeed plans that Picard was Wesley’s biological father, the question naturally arises: is Picard even the type for something like this? After 7 seasons we can say with certainty: No! But just based on the first season, this is not so easy to overturn.

It Could have been! Especially since it is even clarified in later seasons that Picard was a stormy rebel at a young age, who interpreted rules and consideration a little more freely, see the episode “Welcome to life after death”. So a young Picard could very well have had an affair with his best friend’s wife.

He’d probably be embarrassed about it by the time of The Next Century, though, which would explain Beverly’s reluctance to tell him. Whether the theory that such a revelation was actually planned is true or not remains to be seen.

The next episode awaits us on March 3rd streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Paramount+. “Star Trek: Picard” is not the only 2023 release from the “Star Trek” universe. We list you all “Star Trek” new releases!
