Is a collaboration between Star Wars and Studio Ghibli possible? This is what a video published by the legendary animation studio suggests…

As reported by ComingSoon, the famous Japanese animation studio, Studio Ghibli, posted on their official Twitter account a video teasing a potential collaboration between the creators of Spirited Away and Lucasfilm.

While very few details have been released about it, this wouldn’t be the first time Star Wars has been adapted into an anime form. Indeed, Disney+’s anthology series Star Wars: Visions (2021) saw the iconic franchise reinterpreted by multiple animation studios, including Trigger Studios and Science SARU. Each episode was thus an independent story that featured a completely different visual style from the previous one.

As you know, Studio Ghibli is one of the most adored film studios in the animation industry. Founded by Hayao Miyazaki, Toshio Suzuki and Isao Takahata, it is behind anime classics such as My Neighbor Totoro (1986), Princess Mononoké (1997), Spirited Away (2001) and Howl’s Moving Castle (2004).

In the published video, we simply see the logos of the two companies scrolling one after the other… This is rather enigmatic. Check out the teaser in the tweet below:

A collaboration between the two studios is obviously a dream and the potential for such a project is immense.

Until you can find out what it’s all about, you can check out Star Wars: Visions season 2 – which will feature an even more global variety of art styles from around the world – in early 2023 on Disney+.
