A bit like Harry Potter or Pokémon, Star Wars is one of the most popular franchises in pop culture. and is not only entitled to its share of films, series and other derivative products, but also to video games. This year, fans of the license are even more cheerful than usual since the highly anticipated series Obi Wan Kenobi will be released on Disney+ next month. On the gaming side, the list of titles is only getting longer from month to month, so much so that one wonders if it’s not too much? That being said, the Star Wars universe is so vast that it would probably take hundreds of games to cover it all.
Star Wars: a new title led by an industry star
It is in a official blog and on social networks Lucasfilm Games revealed its new Star Wars game project. It is for the moment only the evocation of the project and neither title, nor release date, nor gameplay have obviously been communicated. For the moment, you will have to be satisfied with the person in charge of the project: Amy Henning.
If you don’t know her, know that she is an award-winning screenwriter and director, even a legend in the video game industry since she is notably behind the successes of Legacy of Kain, Jak and Daxter or Uncharted.
The collaboration between Skydance New Media and Lucasfilm Games is therefore formalized in order to develop and produce a narrative action-adventure game whose original story will take place in the Star Wars galaxy. No further details on the time period or storyline were given but it is likely to arrive in the next few months. Beware, however, of the license’s busy schedule in 2022 and 2023 (and even beyond) with the Obi Wan, Ahsoka, Cassian series or even video games already planned such as Star Wars Hunters, Ubisoft’s open world, the probable second opus of Jedi Fallen Order or Star Wars Eclipse. Let’s also not forget LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga which was released at the beginning of April.
New Star Wars game: what can we expect?
With the enthusiasm around the series The Mandalorian and Baby Yoda, we can largely hope for a game in this universe. Especially since a video had leaked concerning a potential title with the bounty hunter but we never knew if it was a real leak or a simple redesign of Battlefront. It seems so “easy” today to modify an already existing game or to create trailers that seem larger than life.
And that’s not all. Hennig is also working on another project: in 2021, Amy’s studio announced a partnership with Marvel to create an all-new game with an original story and their unique take on beloved comic book characters.
