The talented French studio Quantic Dream is visibly struggling to realize its vision of Star Wars a reality.

Fans of the universe imagined by George Lucas nevertheless had reason to rejoice. In addition to a third episode for Star Wars Jedi, other video game projects have sprouted since the loss of exclusive rights to adapt this cult license by Electronic Arts. In particular, we have Star Wars Outlaws on the Ubisoft side, expected in 2024, and therefore Star Wars Eclipse on the side of Quantic Dream. But this one seems far, very far from being ready…

An eclipse not expected before at least 2026

Unveiled for the very first time during the Game Awards 2021, Star Wars Eclipse seems to be having trouble seeing his planets align. The Quantic Dream project nevertheless has something to seduce: a third-person action-adventure game allowing us to embody various characters in the Outer Rim, with narrative choices with serious consequences.

Only here: according to the latest news, we should not expect to see this Eclipse before at least 2026. And this, while unfortunately remaining (very) optimistic. The French studio, in difficulty for several years, seems to have had its eyes bigger than its stomach. Massive recruitment was therefore launched, but many positions have clearly still not found takers. One reason among many behind this observation: serious allegations of a toxic work culture within the studio.

During the Tokyo Game Show 2023, where Phil Spencer also made an appearance, Lisa Pendse, Vice President of Marketing at Quantic Dream, was approached by IGN. She made a not very encouraging statement about this ambitious title: “ Can I say it still exists? Because it exists. He’s just not ready. He’s simmering “.

A Quantic Dream turned into a nightmare?

In addition to the scale of a project that was obviously too ambitious for Quantic Dream, another material element would have put a damper on its wheels: the engine. From the start of the development of Star Wars Eclipsethis one seems to have given the studio a lot of trouble.

Due to near radio silence on the part of Quantic Dream around the project, it is difficult to really estimate its state of progress, or if it was relaunched, so to speak, from scratch between its announcement in 2021 and today. Still, the creators of the very good Heavy Rain Or Detroit: Become Human have a lot of work to do to offer us their vision of Star Warstherefore expected… one day on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

This is not the only game around this license to encounter a lot of difficulties. The remake of the cult classic Knights of the Old Republic is also floundering, the project having most recently been entrusted to another studio to start from scratch. The Dark Side sometimes acts in very pernicious ways…
