In the “Star Wars” universe we have met many powerful Jedi. From Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) to Yoda (Frank Oz) to Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson), everyone can call themselves Jedi Masters, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) is a Jedi Knight. They all passed their Padawan exams, but what if they hadn’t passed?
To be called a Jedi, the young padawans must have one Complete an exam that is created individually by their masters. This test is not just about Force and lightsaber skills, but also about proving your character as a worthy Jedi.
In some cases, the test can also be considered passed due to special achievements or situations. Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) was awarded the rank of Jedi after her trial in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”, but she left the order and refused the “promotion”.
Anyone who fails the test must leave the order and return to his or her homeworld. However, there is also the option of continuing to stay in the order, just without a lightsaber and Jedi rank.
As part of the Jedi Service Corps, you can remain in the Jedi Order even after failing the test
Padawans can fail their exams for a variety of reasons. It can be due to a lack of talent, a lack of discipline or refusal to follow orders, or morally dubious views and views that do not coincide with the Jedi Order.
Those who fail are allowed to return home. This is a rather cruel fate because the Jedi are taken away from their families at a young age and brought to the Jedi Temple. Very few people can remember their families and therefore returning home is not necessarily desirable.
Of course, the failed Jedi can go anywhere else; after failing the test, they are no longer part of the order and therefore have free decision-making power. However, there is also an option provided by the Order itself, so that the failed Jedi remain part of the Order.
The padawans who fail can do so Jedi Service Corps join. They are not allowed to carry a lightsaber or call themselves Jedi. This option was first introduced in the novel “Inquisitor: Rise of the Red Blade” by Delilah S. Dawson.
The Jedi Service Corps is a humanitarian organization in which nearly trained non-Jedi use their Force abilities to help the people of the Republic. However, by joining the Corps it becomes public knowledge that you have failed the Jedi exam.
The Skywalker Saga films have not yet introduced a Jedi who has taken the test and failed. We’ll certainly find out soon on Disney+ whether this will change in the upcoming “Star Wars” releases.
