A gameplay demonstration on a development version of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has been posted. It lasts nine minutes and reveals some notable details
Initially expected for mid-March, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will finally be released at the end of April. A six-week postponement that Electronic Arts and Respawn, the studio in charge of development, deemed necessary to refine the video game. And to keep fans waiting, the press was able to access a 9-minute gameplay sequence, shared by IGN.
These nine minutes focus on a single location, the planet Koboh, which is unseen in Star Wars. Here, the protagonist — Cal Kestis — explores the surroundings after crashing his ship, the Mantis. Of course, he’s always accompanied by his trusty droid, BD-1. And, of course, he wields his lightsaber even more effectively. Its, one should even say.
The gameplay also revealed some interesting elements, both on gameplay and on the Star Wars universe. Here are five points to remember.
Exploring with binoculars
You can now explore the surroundings from a distance, thanks to BD-1, which acts as binoculars. You can thus observe what is happening far from you, place markers (and then have them on the map of the area). It looks like you can position up to five points on the map. Convenient if you note an interesting place to come back to later.
B1 battle droids
You have certainly recognized them, if you have seen the film The Phantom Menace, the first feature film of the prelogy. When the Trade Federation imposes a blockade on the planet Naboo, they heavily use B1 battle droids to control the populations. They are recognized by their slender silhouette and their very elongated head. Cal Kestis cuts them up not without difficulty.
A grappling hook to cling to the walls
It’s a new way to move around environments, and it’s inspired by platform games. In the gameplay video, Cal Kestis is seen using a grappling hook to reach a distant wall. After a double jump over a body of water, the Jedi throws his rope. It is a movement option that is added to the whole range of jumps that we already know.
B2 battle droids
Perhaps a little less distinguishable, the B2 super battle droids are also featured in Survivor. You meet them in particular in the second film of the prelogy, Attack of the Clones, when Jedi Knights rub shoulders with Separatist forces. They look a lot more intimidating and, we guess, are arguably a lot more dangerous than the B1s in the game.
Boglings
It seems that the planet Koboh is populated by boglings – a species that we have already seen on Bogano, a planet that we explored in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (the previous game). They are small, furry, bouncing monsters that are not hostile to the player. They seem to be making a comeback here…unless it’s another close, but unknown species?
