Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: a huge disappointment for the remake?

More than two years ago now, Embracer Group revealed a remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republicthe role-playing game originally developed by BioWare in 2003 for Xbox. This time, the title is developed by Aspyr Mediaspecialized in ports, and intended for PlayStation 5 and PC only.

That was in 2021, but since then… well it’s complicated. We haven’t had any official information, but Jason Schreier claimed that the project was put on hold, or even transferred to Saber Interactivedeveloper more capable of creating AAA ambitious. Few months ago, Sony had meanwhile deleted the trailer from his channel Youtube and his tweets relating to the remake of KOTOR.

It already didn’t smell good, but this week, THE CEO ofEmbrace Lars Wingefors refused to make any comment on the game during a conference with investors. Not very reassuring, but Jeff Grubbs, a renowned journalist, addressed the subject in his GiantBomb podcast (around the 57th minute) and it does not say anything good for the project:

I just want to clarify this, this game is no longer in development at this time. He is completely at a standstill. The game is no longer developed, in any way, by any studio.

Visibly, Embracer Group would have buried Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the title is completely abandoned. It must be said that the European giant is not in great shape currently, spending resources on such an ambitious and complicated project is indeed perhaps not the best idea, much to the despair of fans.
