Locked in incredible and endless development, Star Wars KOTOR Remake still exists. Saber Interactive, in charge of the project, has just been sold by Embracer Group. The studio thus received some pretty bad news regarding this extremely anticipated title.
The endless saga of Star Wars KOTOR Remake
Embracer, in dire need of cash, sold Saber Interactive. The group thus left with other studios and a myriad of projects under their belt. Among them is the highly anticipated Star Wars KOTOR Remake. Announced in 2021, it has since been mired in the labyrinthine belly of a Sarlacc. The project was first entrusted to Aspyr Media, a specialist in the field. In 2023, Saber Interactive finally took over.
As part of yesterday’s sale for $500 million, the Remake went with Saber Interactive. However, this is not the only game in production within the group. In total, it recovered 38 projects and 14 games in development. All of this was distributed among the twenty or so studios that make up Saber. In such a situation, it appears unlikely that KOTOR Remake will be in a sufficiently advanced state. We have, ironically enough, an unofficial form of confirmation from Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors.

He indeed took part in a conference aimed at discussing the sale of Saber Interactive. An analyst asked if we should expect a release of a AAA game jointly developed between Embracer and Saber in the next 12 months. Another commenter asked if the AAA project in question was actually Star Wars KOTOR Remake. “ Who will be in charge of its development? I thought he transferred to Saber “.
