The Acolyte will be the next big Star Wars series on Disney+. Showrunner Leslye Headland has now confirmed the main cast and given first impressions behind the scenes.

Joining Amandla Stenberg is The Matrix star Carrie-Anne Moss and Squid Game Emmy winner Lee Jung-jae and more.

When the galaxy was different…

Perhaps the most interesting thing about Star Wars: Acolyte is that the story takes place during the High Republic. An epoch in which the Republic and the Jedi Order were at the peak of their power, but there were also costly wars against the Sith. The online role-playing game “Star Wars: Old Republic” is also set in the days of the powerful Republic, but thousands of years earlier.

On the days of the High Republic, Disney wants to produce more and more films and series in the future, also in order to distance itself from the aging “Skywalker saga”. According to initial press releases, “Acolyte” is described as a “mystery thriller” revolving around the Sith and the dark side of the Force. A Padawan is led astray and discovers a mysterious cult of sinister aspirants and Sith devotees.

A strong cast for a strong new Star Wars series

Together, Disney and Lucasfilm also revealed the cast of The Acolyte. The most prominent names in the cast are probably Carrie-Anne Moss and Lee Jung-jae. Moss previously made her screen comeback last year in the fourth “Matrix” film. Jung-jae was the big and Emmy-winning star of the series “Squid Game”.

The following actors have also been confirmed to have roles in Acolyte. However, it is not yet known what exactly it will be. Showrunner Leslye Headland has been able to get a few old friends from her previous project “Russian Doll/Matrjoschka” on board.

• Manny Jacinto: Known from “Nine Perfect Strangers” and “Top Gun 2”.
• Dafne Keen: Plays in the series “His Dark Materials”, which has been running since 2019.
• Jodie Turner-Smith starred opposite Colin Farrell in the 2021 drama After Yang.
• Rebecca Henderson: She has previously appeared in Russian Doll, directed by Leslye Headland.
• Charlie Barnett: Like Henderson, he appeared in the Netflix series “Russian Doll/Matryoshka”, but he is also in “Chicago Fire”.
• Dean-Charles Chapman: Chapman is best known for his portrayal of the young King Tommen in “Game of Thrones”.

Since filming has already started in London and judging by the first set photo with Stenberg and Jung-jae it’s going well, we could see “The Acoltyte” as early as next year. The first rumors predict the summer of 2023 as the start date.
