Starfield: Todd Howard talks about his inspirations for the RPG – Starfield

Bethesda recently shared a video about Starfield, allowing us to come back to certain points. Among them, the substantial dialogues were mentioned in particular, but also the inspirations of Todd Howard, the director of the game. He spoke briefly about the works that influenced him while creating the space RPG, one of the most anticipated games of 2023.

In his words, Starfield was most inspired by SunDog: Frozen Legacy. This is a game released in 1984 on the Apple II, asking players to travel from planet to planet to buy and sell goods, on which there are sometimes pirates, who must be confronted.

But Todd Howard also cited another work that marked him, TravelerRoleplay ” focused on pure sci-fi “. Moreover, this one slips us a little anecdote, explaining that Traveler was one of the first games he tried to make on the Apple II.

The other thing is that it was one of the first games I programmed on the Apple II at the time, I really wanted to make a Traveler game. It’s also the first time I realized that computers have memory that you can run out of. I can already imagine the comments, the people who say ” you’ve been running computers idle for 40 years “.

In conclusion, Todd Howard believes that “ Starfield is a homecoming for role-playing games from decades ago. It remains to be seen whether the community will appreciate the experience, which promises to be ambitious and substantial. As a reminder, the title does not have a release date, except that it will arrive during the first half of 2023.
