FC Bayern presents initial ideas for the search for a coach

The list of candidates to succeed Thomas Tuchel as coach of FC Bayern is long. However, the Bundesliga record champions have announced that they will first look for errors – what is going wrong and why did Hansi Flick and Julian Nagelsmann also retire early before Tuchel?

FC Bayern Munich does not want to be pressured into looking for a new coach for the coming season. “Now we have a little time to look around accordingly, and that’s what we’ll do,” said the chairman of the supervisory board and club president Herbert Hainer after the German record champions’ 2-1 win in the Bundesliga against Rasenballsport Leipzig.

“We have now replaced three coaches within a not too long period of time,” said Hainer. That doesn’t necessarily speak for FC Bayern and isn’t what they want. “We want to work with the coach in the long term. We will think about it and analyze it very carefully – and hopefully get the right one,” said Hainer.

When asked about the recent coaching wear and tear, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen explained: “It’s at least something we can do better. We want more continuity in the coaching chair again. That’s what we’re striving for.” The separation from Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season is a done deal; the collaboration was originally agreed until at least mid-2025. The terms of office of Hansi Flick and Julian Nagelsmann also ended early in summer 2021 and spring 2023.

There is a lot of speculation about possible successors to Tuchel. Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso is considered a preferred candidate. But the name of the former world star and Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane was also mentioned. Or Sebastian Hoeneß’s. The nephew of Bayern’s honorary president Uli HoeneÃß has already successfully trained the Bayern amateurs and is currently working successfully at VfB Stuttgart.

They want to find a trainer in peace, “and when we have found him, we will announce it,” said Hainer. The 69-year-old emphasized that the team was “not uncoachable”. However, the current season could also cause a change in the star ensemble. “We have to sit down at the end of the season and analyze. What’s going on, why are we not playing so well, is it just the coach or do we have to change something in the team too,” the former Adidas boss asked important questions the seasonal analysis.
