In North Rhine-Westphalia the summer holidays start today and in the holiday regions it will be full and expensive until September 11th. You still want to leave quickly and haven’t booked anything? Then you have good cards in these countries.

The most popular holiday destinations such as Spain, Italy and Greece are, as always, quite fully booked, but there is still capacity. According to the holiday home provider “Holidu”, Spain is 83 percent occupied in July – but this also means that 17 percent of the accommodations are still waiting for guests. A similar picture can be seen in Sardinia (18 percent available) and on the Greek islands of Crete and Rhodes (19 percent each). “Holiday homes and holiday apartments are well booked in the popular holiday countries of Europe, but there are still free accommodations everywhere,” says Holidu spokeswoman Heike Müller.

The holiday home portal has determined the average July prices per night for a holiday apartment or holiday home. It is logical that the prices in the most popular travel destinations are higher than elsewhere: Accommodation in Greece costs an average of 152 euros in July and 146 euros in Croatia per night. Overnight stays in Italy (156 euros) and Portugal (159 euros) are even more expensive. In Spain, the average price climbs to 163 euros per night and accommodation. But here, too, there are clear differences: while accommodation in Mallorca costs an average of 313 euros per night, they are located Canary Islands at 111 euros. With higher temperatures all year round, the Canary Islands are not only a good winter travel destination, but also beautiful in summer.

Holidays in Eastern Europe are significantly cheaper

The cheapest are the holiday accommodations in the trend destination Albania (66 euros), and also in Bulgaria you can still find affordable accommodation (100 euros). In Czech Republic The night also costs around 100 euros. As far as flights are concerned, according to travel search engine Skyscanner, prices have fallen the most compared to before the pandemic in the following three destinations:

  1. ZagrebCroatia: – 40 percent
  2. OsloNorway: – 22 percent
  3. SofiaBulgaria: – 19 percent

And how is it in Germany?

With an average price of 129 euros per night, holiday accommodation in Germany is in the middle; In addition, the arrival and departure tend to be cheap. But there are big regional differences: the popular destinations by the sea are unsurprisingly the most expensive: Sylt comes in first (204 euros), closely followed by Rügen (179 euros) and Usedom (169 euros). Vacation rentals inland are cheaper – in the Rhoen (92 euros), at the Moselle (103 euros) or in the Eifel (108 euros). Hosts in the Black Forest charge an average of 113 euros per night, in Upper Bavaria it is 134 euros.

More booking tips to save

Keep eyes open: For everyone who wants to go on holiday in the most popular holiday regions, it can definitely be worth doing a spontaneous search: Since travelers keep canceling their accommodation, holiday accommodations also become available at short notice in top travel destinations.

Travel in the last weeks of vacation: According to Skyscanner, most families tend to travel at the beginning of the summer holidays. Therefore, it is almost always cheaper to use the last few weeks of vacation for the summer vacation, as the flight prices then fall.
