Starting soon – Stellantis is building cheap Chinese electric vehicles in Europe

According to insiders, the Chinese electric car manufacturer Leapmotor is close to building a small electric car at a Stellantis factory in Poland.

Production of the T03 small car could begin in the second quarter of this year, a person familiar with the process said on Friday, according to Reuters. Pre-assembled parts could be assembled into finished cars. Production is planned at the plant in Tychy, said a second insider. The two companies could not initially be reached for comment. The T03 is of a similar size to the newly revised Dacia Spring Electric, has a 41 kWh gross battery and is said to achieve a WLTP range of 280 kilometers. Its drive has an output of 80 kW/109 hp and weighs just over 1200 kilograms. When it comes to software, the Leapmotor T03 seems to be well-equipped; there is a lot on offer, from lane departure warning to automatic parking. Any updates will come over the air. Stellantis took over a fifth of the shares in Leapmotor last year. As part of the agreement, the two companies formed a joint venture. Stellantis received the right to build and sell the Leapmotor vehicles outside of China. According to media reports, Stellantis is considering producing the cars at its Fiat factory in Turin, Italy. The T03 could be a price breaker in Europe – starting at around 22,000 euros.
