State competition on the Danube – the fastest on the Zille with strength and will

Jakob Frank from the Erla fire brigade was the fastest in the state competitions with the zille. A total of 291 comrades achieved gold, silver and bronze medals on the Danube.

Jakob Frank needed only 6:03.68 minutes with his Zille for the 1200 meter long distance on the Danube in Klosterneuburg. The fireman from the district of Amstetten thus crowned himself the winner of the state-wide Zille championships. Of course, Frank wasn’t the only one who achieved impressive feats on the water. These include, for example, Kathrin Holm and Clemens Linzberger, who at 15 were the youngest participants. Or Rudolf Swatek, who will be celebrating his 65th birthday in September and was therefore the “senior” of the competition. There was no sign of an age-related disadvantage with anyone on the water. 600 meters up, 600 meters down A total of almost 1200 zill crews lined up. They first had to push the boat upstream 600 meters with a ship’s hook and then row downstream and overcome several obstacles. 21 comrades were able to achieve the gold badge, 117 the silver and 153 the bronze. The number is therefore low in relation to the participants because many were able to receive their badges in the past.Because sporting competitions like this one count for the optimal preparation for flood operations, when the rescue of people can often only be done with zills. “Our members do great work for our society every day. They have once again impressively demonstrated that,” says state fire chief Didi Fahrafellner enthusiastically.
