Steam comeback for RPG hit: There are good reasons for returning to the charts

The tactical shooter Ready or Not still manages to successfully defend first place in the Steam bestsellers, but otherwise there is a lot of movement on the podium. With The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, an RPG that is now 5 years old has managed to fight its way back into the charts – and we think we know the reasons for this.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – GOTY version is again a Steam bestseller

With The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt CD Projekt Red was able to land a real hit five years ago. The game won countless awards as the best game of the year and was released again for the Nintendo Switch in 2019.

Now the GOTY version of the RPG hit is back in the Steam charts in second place just behind Ready or Not (source: Steam) – but why is that? For one thing, the award-winning role-playing game is currently being offered at a heavily discounted price along with all of the DLCs. Instead of 49.99 euros, only 10 euros are due – a real premium price considering the game has tens, if not hundreds, of hours of entertainment.

But that’s probably not the only reason for the sudden surge in sales. the recent start of the second season of the Netflix TV series from The Witcher should also contribute to the success. Even the release of the first season caused a real comeback of the game at the end of 2019 and attracted so many players that a new Steam record was even set.

The GOTY version of The Witcher 3 includes the main game as well as the two DLCs Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone. Check out the official trailer for what you can expect from the big package:

The next-gen version should appear in the summer

But what about the next-gen version of The Witcher 3? We have known for several months that this is in development. The improved version for PS5, Xbox Series and PC was originally supposed to appear in the second half of 2021, but the studio’s plans were postponed again due to the cyberpunk debacle.

CD Projekt Red is currently planning the release in the second quarter of 2022. This Complete Edition will be available for purchase as a standalone game, but owners of the current version for PC, Xbox One and PS4 should upgrade to the improved version for free be able. We are curious to see whether this can provide the same wow effect that the original triggered back then.
