Steam Deck: an improved version coming soon?

With the Steam Deck, Valve hit hard. Its laptop is shaped like a console similar to the Nintendo Switch but can run most games. Steamenough to delight players who move often or on a small budget, the Steam Deck being much cheaper than a real PC.

Since then, competitors have drawn out their alternativeswith the ROG AllyASUSsince available in a cheaper but less powerful version, while Lenovo will soon launch Legion Go. Valve, for its part, highlights the reconditioned to buy a cheaper Steam Deck. But is the manufacturer working on a more powerful Steam Deck 2? Pierre-Loup Griffais, designer of the portable console at Valverecently spoke with The Verge on this subject :

It is important to us that the Deck offers a fixed performance target to developers and that the message to customers is simple, that each Deck can play the same games. As such, changing the performance level is not something we take lightly, and we only want to do so when a sufficiently significant increase is possible. We also don’t want increased performance to come at a significant cost in power efficiency and battery life. I don’t foresee such a leap being possible in the next few years, but we are always closely monitoring innovations in architectures and manufacturing processes to see where things are going.

You would have understood it, Valve think about things with a lot of perspective. A portable console is good, but the autonomy must follow, which is not often the case when the power is high. Moreover, multiplying the generations of Steam Deck would give more work to developersor worse, would deprive old Steam Decks of recent games, with some studios preferring to settle for the most recent and powerful version.

At present, buying a Steam Deck guarantees that the games will run correctly, Valve created a small tool with categories indicating the status of each title on its portable console (Checked, Playable, Not playable Or Unknown), enough to check at a glance if the big one AAA at the moment is working well. Multiplying Decks means multiplying hasslesand if an improved version is to see the light of day, it will not be for a few years, i.e. not before 2025, or even 2026.

And to play on Steam Deck, you can find a bunch of games regularly on sale on Gamesplanet.
