The JSAUX builder definitely believes in Steam Deck and unveils a new dock for the Valve console.
More expensive than the others, this dock can however accommodate an M.2 SSD.
Never two docks without three
Last July, JSAUX, a manufacturer specializing in accessories for the Steam Deck, already unveiled a second docking station for the portable console. But no time to hang around, since here is already a third version. Numbered “HB0604”, it will be available for purchase in a few hours on the JSAUX site at 99.99 dollars (the price will then rise to 129.99 euros). Shipping will then take a maximum of 10 days.
What’s new for this price? This 6-in-1 aluminum dock this time includes a slot for connecting a SATA or NVMe M.2 SSD to virtually extend the storage capacities of the Valve console. A good idea, since the machine in its most expensive version only offers 512 GB of storage. However, it is possible to add micro SD cards.
Data transfer between the dock and the console is done via USB-C, up to 900 MB/s. On the compatibility side, only M Key NVME/PCIE disks cannot be plugged into this dock. The supported sizes are: 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280.
The product sheet states that the JSAUX development team is preparing a script to automatically mount the SSD after installation. It will be available for download “ in the near future “. In the meantime, we will have to get our hands dirty.
An ever more complete docking station
The rest of the technical characteristics move very little. A Gigabit Ethernet port is still there to enjoy a stronger internet connection than Wi-Fi, and an HDMI 2.0 4K@60Hz/2K@120Hz port allows you to take advantage of the console’s capabilities on a beautiful external screen.
A USB-C port for recharging at the maximum speed of which the Steam Deck is capable (45 W) is accompanied by two USB-A 3.1 ports for connecting accessories and peripherals. The previous model was content with USB 3.0.
On July 15, Valve surprised everyone by announcing the Steam Deck, a gaming PC in portable console format. The promise: play its entire Steam library, from the small indie game to the biggest AAA, from anywhere, as easily as on our home consoles. All for 80 € more than a Nintendo Switch OLED, and for infinitely less than any laptop gamer. Is the Steam Deck suitable for your uses? Which model to choose? We will try to answer all your questions in this test.
