Steam removes two cult games without warning, it’s panic

Currently, the community is a little panicked, because Steam has just removed the possibility of purchasing two cult games on the store. What is going on ?

Steam is the place to go for those looking for attractive promotions. The platform attracts millions of players, but we sometimes deal with unpleasant surprises. This is precisely what we have just observed. Without warning, two games from the same franchise are no longer available for purchase. However, they have been out for quite a while. The incomprehension is being heard within the community, what does this mean for the other titles in the license?

Two Devil May Cry are no longer available on Steam

So the question is: who is affected? We are talking here about two opuses of the Devil May Cry game series. To be more precise, our “stars” of the day are the 4 and the 3 Special Edition. For some unknown reason, their Steam pages indicate that they are no longer available for sale. The strangest thing is that the Special Edition of the 4 is still accessible, unlike its basic version. But then, what are the reasons behind this choice? Well, we know absolutely nothing about it. There are many hypotheses that put forward a remaster or a remake, but that seems far-fetched.

Obviously Capcom made the decision, but why is Steam the only platform affected? Why are these games targeted? Is this a simple mistake? For the moment, it is difficult to say without an official statement from the studio. The latter has been contacted, and we are awaiting a response. We are not guaranteed to have one, but it is a situation that we would like to clarify. In addition, the other Devil May Cry, like 5 or DmC, were not entitled to this strange sentence.

If in doubt, you still have the option of playing Devil May Cry 3 on Steam. For that, you have to go directly through the DMC HD Collection. It’s a bit tedious, but you don’t really have a better option right now. In any case, we are in the dark, especially since it follows a similar fate reserved for a very popular title.

Another game is affected

Indeed, we are not facing an isolated case. Recently, TPS Spec Ops: The Line was removed from Steam, without prior explanation. Please note that the creator of the game himself was not aware of this decision. He also spoke on X on this subject: “It makes no sense – especially because the themes Spec Ops: The Line evokes are even more relevant today than ever before. What happened to 2K and Steam? “.

There is still a big difference with Devil May Cry, since we had the end of the story for Spec Ops: The Line. In fact, it has not only disappeared from Steam, but from other stores as well. 2K explained that the partnerships had come to an end, and we imagine that it had something to do with the music we hear in the game. Consequently, they were forced to remove it from the stores.
